Touring exhibition bauhausimaginista coming to Bangkok
Students and lecturers from all over the world joined the Bauhaus school early on, to carry their knowledge and experience back to their homes later. The touring exhibition bauhausimaginista depicts this diffusion into different parts of the world and investigates how the concepts of Bauhaus were changed, adapted or rejected when facing the local conditions, cold war conflicts, the non-alignedmovement and dictatorships, the processes of decolonization and development projects.

The film presents two characters - the Bauhaus-trained architect Lotte Stam-Beese and the writer, editor, and the civil rights activists Hermine Huiswoud. Both Stam-Beese’s ideas about housing and Huiswoud’s struggles for racial and class equality were developed through a relationship to communism. Though they never met, both women experienced life in the Soviet Union in the early 1930s and ended up influencing public discourse in the Netherlands in the 1950s.

In his film The Most Beautiful Campus in Africa, architect and architectural historian Zvi Efrat documents the planning and design of the University of Ife campus (now known as Obafemi Awolowo University) in Nigeria, by the Israeli architect Arieh Sharon. Founded in 1960 in protest against British colonial education policy, the University of Ife was the first post-independence university in Nigeria to possess an architecture faculty.

The Otolith Group’s work O Horizon, was researched and filmed on the Visva-Bharati campus, Santiniketan, at Sriniketan and in the surrounding area of Birbhum in West Bengal. It stages moments from Rabindranath Tagore’s extensive environmental pedagogy as a series of portraits, moods, studies and sketches that allude to what might be described as a ‘Tagoreancosmopolitics.’

"The Body´s Legacies, Part 1: The Objects", 58:16 min.

The film deals critically with histories in which colonising powers or missionaries removed objects from non-Western societies and transported them to Western countries, where they have entered private and public collections and have often been presented from a purely Western scholarly perspective. It also explores the subsequent response of these previously colonised cultures, and their wish to have such works returned.
