Opening: October 24, at 18.30 hrs. Welcome speech by Dr. Norbert Spitz, Director of the Goethe-Institut Thailand

In cooperation with the Bangkok Art and Culture Centre and the HARDCOVER Art Bookshop, the Goethe-Institut Thailand will be presenting an exhibition of the German Photo Books Awards 2013, a competition that has been held by the German Association of       Publishers and Booksellers in Baden-Württemberg for more than 30 years. The Awards are usually given in 3 categories; photo books, books on theory and history of photography and textbooks on photography. The best photo books will be honoured with “gold” and “silver” titles and over 100 of the volumes that got into the pre-jury round will be         under the title “nominated”.
The German Photo Books Awards 2013 were announced on November 16, 2012 by a group of jury members including experienced photographers, specialised journalists,             graphic designers and photo books sellers. 22 photo books have won the “gold” and “silver” titles while the other 173 were given the title “nominated 2013”. “Poppy. Trails of Afghan      Heroin” by photographers Robert Knoth and Antoinette de Jong is one of the most outstanding works submitted. It focuses on the global consequences of the Afghan heroin trade. Other winning titles illustrate, for example, the diversities of cities like Cape Town and Moscow. They’re not just books that contain photographs, but also debate historical and contemporary problems.
After great success in Manila, the touring exhibition will be displayed in Bangkok again before heading to the next station – Jakarta. The exhibition will also be supplemented by   a special showcase of several latest Limited Edition books by Cologne-based TASCHEN, Munich's PRESTEL Verlag, and special panorama books by EDITION PANORAMA,          brought to the audience by HARDCOVER: The Art Book Shop at BACC.
The admission of the exhibition as well as the opening reception is free of charge.           Now it’s time for every photo book lover in Bangkok to enjoy taking a look at these inspirational award-winning works of art and creativity.
