SIAM SINFONIETTA FIRST CONCERT SINCE COVID-19 KICKS OFF THE BEETHOVEN

Dear Friends:
Amazingly, we are not yet dead. The virus was almost the demise of the foundation, but amazingly, we are still here. But we do need the help of everyone in this group. We've negotiated a government deal that could help us survive for two months, except they are not going to pay us for two months. The deal is in exchange for me agreeing to make some educational videos for the ministry of culture's library, so our work is very much cut out for us.

We are finally free, to a certain extent, to do some events, and the orchestra is rehearsing magnificently. The Covid-19 "practice at home" awards were handed out a few days ago and it was a feel good experience with the minister himself giving out the prizes. We've managed to cover, partly through eking out a few sponsors and partly because I lent the opera some income that came my way from the German rights to "Helena Citronova" most of our basic overhead but we do need to slowly kick the small-end fundraising process into gear.

With this in mind we're doing the first concert in the BTHVN2020 series — Beethoven Symphonies No.2 and 8. This is intended as a livestream event.  I would say the audience is limited to around 50 people. We'd like to invite our real supporters to attend this historic concert in person by making a donation which I would like to set at 2,000 baht, but it can be higher if anyone feels like donating more.

This is the full Siam Sinfonietta in its first post-Covid concert and it is kicking off the BTHVN 2020 project for Thailand (the Beethoven anniversary is managed from Bonn and we are one of the only Asian groups given the right to display the logo — the only Asian group between China and Israel in fact). Our incarnation of the BTHVN 2020 project is to perform all of Beethoven's symphonies within the season. (The BTHVN 2020 is a big deal — I am sure Beethoven's spirit feels a little sad that Covid-19 came to dampen the celebration of his 250th birthday).

I'd like to encourage all of you to rope in your friends, neighbors, relatives and loved ones to be one of the exclusive people who can attend the event in person. Tomorrow I'll put out a mechanism for making the reservation. We will have some very special gift for each of the 50 people, perhaps a CD, but also something limited and exclusive.
