EARLY YEARS PROJECT #2 - Announcement

The Exhibition Department of the Bangkok Art and Culture Centre has announced the recipientsof its Early Years Project #2: Anticipation program – An Incubating Project for Young Artists, held for the first time in 2016. Following the call for submission, 10 selected works have showcased on the 7 th floor of the BACC from 1 December 2017 - 25 March 2018. All qualifying artists have presented details of their creative processes and concept at the given space. The presentation will be used as an evaluationcriteria for outstanding work at the final process.

The program’s prize winners as selected by the BACC are as follows:

Artist Residency – one winner:
Alisa Chunchue (OVERDOSE)
Mobility Funding – two winners:
Rungruang Sittirerk (Remittance)
Saroot Supasuthivech (Security Guard)

These winning works were chosen by experts from across various schools of art who were
invited by the BACC to be part of the panel of judges:

1. Arin Rungjang
2. Sakarin Krue-On
3. Assoc.Prof.Thanet Awsinsiri
Criteria for the evaluation and selection of winning works:
1) Potentiality– Ability to display of one’s potential as a next-generation and professional artist,
and an ability to introduce concept, practice, and present their work in a unique manner.
2) Relevance – Presentation of concepts that concern contemporary art or the connection
between art and modern society – including the application of skills, formats, and ideas that
are considered timely in the current context
3) Public Access– Understanding of awareness, behaviors, ideas, influence, and impact of art
on various matters as part of the interaction between art and its audience, society, and the
public at large; including works that reflect the society, and artistic expression that is clear cut
in its communication to the audience
4) Criticality/Self-Criticality– Ability to communicate in such a way that exhibits critical thinking,
connection between themes and the work, and the artist’s receptive attitude towards debate,
study, and critical discussion of said work from various perspectives and methods
5) Practicality/Execution– Ability to display the artist’s execution capability based on the
practicality of one’s approach to creative process that reflects professionalism, from project
proposal writing to work, space, time, and financial management.

About Early Years Project
An initiative conceived to foster the talents of fledgling artists, the program initiated and operated by Exhibition department of Bangkok Art and Culture Centre selects participating works from a range of public submissions with the goal of encouraging the young artists to climb the career ladder and seize opportunities available in Thailand and overseas. The project’s long-term goal is to develop a support base for one generation of artists for a certain period of time while also offering artists of variou origins and styles the opportunity to learn new skills and gather experiences that will feed into their career progression. The project offers includes funding to support their creation, spaces to display works and opportunities to exchange experiences and develop art-making processes. Aimed to expand the artists’ attitudes of art itself through insightful analysis, discussion on the concept and its social value, Early Years Project also drives the artists towards a more mature experience in the international arena.
