The first Cinema Diverse was created in 2012 by Bangkok Art and Culture Centre's Arts Activity Department as part of the Bangkok Art and Culture Centre’s mission to promote arts and culture within the local community as well as encourage arts and cultural dialogue between the artists and general public. This project aims to motivate arts and cultural values and give inspiration to the local community by screening international films with diverse cultural and social content.

Cinema Diverse tries to promote cinema not only as an entertaining experience but as an art form which can be used to project the thoughts, ideas and beliefs of the filmmakers.Through this project, the audience is encouraged to discover new perspective, experience and knowledge from cinema as well as to exchange ideas by taking part in the talk and the Q&A session after the screening with the filmmakers and film experts.

For Cinema Diverse: Director's Choice 2016: The Female Perspective, we have invited five acclaimed Thai female directors to select four international films of their choosing. The chosen films address diverse cultural and social issues from which the audience can gain new ideas and perspectives.

All four screenings of Cinema Diverse: Director's Choice 2016: The Female Perspective will be shown bi-monthly from May – November 2016. After each screening there will be a talk and Q&A session to discuss ideas and thoughts about the film with the directors and film experts.
