Exhibition Department, Bangkok Art and Culture Centre collaborated with the artist, Inson Wongsam present a special activity “Art Tour Lamphun Trip by Inson Wongsam”.
“In my life, I’ve never dreamt of doing or being anything except being an artist.” Born to the craftsman family in Lamphun, Inson Wongsam was genuinely an artist. Full of determination to follow the artist path, Inson was advised and trained under Professor Silpa Bhirasri, Thailand’s maestro and mentor of modern art at Silpakorn University. A thirst for artistic experience has driven Inson to travel into the wide world. In his 28 began his odyssey to Europe with his intention to visit Professor Silpa Bhirasri’s birthplace by Lambretta Scooter. Inson embarked on his scooter for almost 18 months before reaching Rome, Italy then heading to Professor Silpa Bhirasri’s birthplace situated near Florence, then pursue his study in France and move to America for eight years. Inson decided to return to Thailand in 1974. Those experiences had him explored his inner self, lived and created works of art from folk wisdom which interconnected to Nature. At Amphoe Pasang, Lamphun, Inson and his wife, Wanida Wongsam (Venetia Walkey) established Dhamma Park Foundation and art gallery to be as an education centre for the community. Inson Wongsan was praised as a National Artist of Thailand in visual art in 1999. Now, at his 80, Inson incessantly works. He never once stops and still opens up a new possibility for his creativity.
