ASIATOPIA TALK 2015 #4 “Experience from participating in Undisclosed Territory Performance Art Festival, Solo, Indonesia And Future of Imagination Festival, Singapore”

After organizing ASIATOPIA Performance Art Workshop, supported by Bangkok Art and Culture Centre, for 3 years, ASIATOPIA have chosen a new batch of artists to participate in several international Performance art festivals such as Meta Festival 2014 in Chongqing; Guyu Action Contemporary Performance Art Festival in Xi’an; and the latest Undisclosed Territory Festival at Solo. This time, Bangkok Art and Culture Centre has given its full support in giving the new artists the opportunity to exchange working experience with the international artists participating in the festivals. This talk is organized as a forum for the artists to share their experience in international festivals and impart their knowledge to the public as a way to illustrate the international Performance art festivals held in neighboring ASEAN countries.
 
About the Speakers
Nopawan Sirivejkul
A performance and photo artist who has dedicated herself to Performance art ever since founding ASIATOPIA, Nopawan began working as the manager of ASIATOPIA Project in 2002. She is also a freelance researcher and non-fiction writer. In the Performance art context, she has been invited to participate in several international Performance art festivals in various countries (2003 – Present) such as Israel, Poland, Germany, Canada, Japan, Chinese, Korea, Taiwan, and other ASEAN countries.
 
Rinyaphat Nithipattaraahnan
A performance artist who started her work in theatrical performance which often poses questions around social and religious beliefs. Rinyaphat is also a speaker in the practical workshop to employ performance art as media outlet. She has also been invited as a guest lecturer on performance art and theatre at numerous institutions such as Faculty of Music, Silpakorn University and Thaksin University. She now holds a position as an instructor in the Department of Mixed Media Arts, Faculty of Painting Sculpture and Graphic Arts, Silpakorn University, Thailand.
 
Imhathai Suwatthanasilp
Born in Chaiyaphum, Thailand, 1981, ImhathaiSuwatthanasilp, a Master graduate in Painting, Sculpture, and Graphic Arts from Silpakorn University, discovered the secrets of hair through the importance of genetic relation and transformation between family members. Thus, hair strands are used as materials in interweaving Contemporary art and human life together. The portrayal of this relationship is hidden inside the traditional application of hair strands in various rites which signifies the social status of a person. ImhathaiSuwatthanasilp’s art pieces are exhibited both in Thailand and abroad, such as Busan Biennale 2010 in Korea; Identity body it, NCA (Nichido Contemporary Art) 2010 in Tokyo; and Thai Transience, a Traveling Exhibition of Thai Heritage and Contemporary Art 2012 at Singapore Art Museum, Singapore. 
 
Sareena Sattapon
Born in 1992, Thailand, SareenaSattapon is an observable newcomer in the Thai Performance art circle. Obtained her Bachelor Degree in Painting, Sculpture, and Graphic Arts, Silpakorn University, Sareena has since been continuously producing several performances, using her own life stories and experience in different periods as a source of inspiration. Today, Sareena’s interest lies on the traits of Performance art which has been developed from her master Art Thesis. Her past works have been widely admired and exhibited in both Thailand and overseas such as Hong Kong, Korea, and Singapore. Recently, she has just received a one-month Artist-In-Residence Scholarship in Korea.
