Silpakorn University Central Library, in cooperation with Silpakorn University Art Centre, and Bangkok Art and Culture Centre present the art exhibition “Artists’ Books : Knowledge Inside – Out” art exhibition” at the 1st Floor Hall, Bangkok Art and Culture Centre, from 22 August 2017 – 10 September 2017, at 10.00 – 21.00 (close every Monday).
Artists’ books are books made or conceived by contemporary artists, creating art objects by relying on the form and context of books. They are not to be read, but to be seen and to provoke the audiences’ thoughts about the works of art. There are not many of Thai people who know artists’ books, and there has never been any institute or any group of artists that organize this kind of exhibition in Thailand before, although this kind of art has been in existence and has been created in the United States since the 1960s. Even in the 57th Venice Biennale 2017 exhibition which is happening now, there are a lot of parts where artists’ books are displayed. Silpakorn University Central Library, which is the most complete source of art information in Thailand, sees that there has never been any artist’s book exhibition in the country before and therefore cooperates with Silpakorn University Art Centre to invite 39 Thai artists who are alumni of the university, experienced in art, accepted nationally, and known internationally. The featured artists consist of National Artists, Great Artists, national level artists, middle generation artists, and also senior artists, such as Professor DechaWarashoon, Emeritus Professor IthipolThangchalok, Emeritus Professor PreechaTaothong, Emeritus ProfessorPishnuSupanimit, Emeritus Professor VichaiSitthirat, Professor VichokeMukdamanee, and PanyaWijintanasan, and Great Artists such as Professor ThavornKo-udomvit, Professor YanawitKunchaethong, and AnupongChantorn. This is considered a good opportunity for Thai artists to present their artists’ books, and for those who love contemporary art and those who don’t know artists’ books to see this kind of art exhibited formally for the first time in Thailand. All are invited to the exhibition.
The opening ceremony will be held on 30 August 2017, at 18.00, the 1st Floor Hall, Bangkok Art and Culture Centre, honored by Mr. PradechPhayakvichien, president of theSilpakorn University Council and Assistant Prof. Dr. WanchaiSutthanunta, president of Silpakorn University as the presidents of the ceremony, with executives from the university, along with the featured artists.
