“ศิลป์อยู่เป็น - The Art of Surviving in the Arts” is an education programme that is a part of the EARLY YEARS PROJECT #1 : Thisorder, organised by Y.A.N (Young Artist Network) by BACC in conjunction with Tentacles. The programme aims to support emerging artists in understanding the different structures within the art world as well as the various developments and processes of working as creative practitioners, particularly in the shift towards working across disciplines, with artists and designers working in conjunction with experts outside of their fields.

With the shift towards the “multi-disciplinary” in mind, this programme is structured in a way that participants will be able to learn from speakers from within the “Art World” as well as those who work in-between or outside the traditional confines of “the Arts”. In total, the programme comprises of 10 sessions of workshops and seminars divided into 4 parts, including the introduction.
After the introduction, the second part is a series of talk by experts and practitioners in the arts, who will be presenting the different perspectives of the art world, with speakers who work in and outside of Thailand and artists who work in a variety of mediums and at different stages of their careers. Exploring different ways of surviving and growing in the art world.
In the next section, experts and practitioners who work outside the traditional areas of art, will be presenting case studies, ranging from social issues to engagement with scientific knowledge. Presenting their methods, ideas and how different disciplines can come together, to create new kinds of knowledge or solutions.

Lastly, the programme aims to prepare the participating artists for the practicalities of being an artist in the contemporary art world, by providing support in preparing their CVs and portfolios, as well as inviting speakers with experience in writing proposals for residencies and funding. To show the different routes of ‘surviving’ and ‘growing’ as artists.

About Early Years Project
An initiative conceived to foster the talents of fledgling artists, the program initiated and operated by Exhibition department of Bangkok Art and Culture Centre selects participating works from a range of public submissions with the goal of encouraging the young artists to climb the career ladder and seize opportunities available in Thailand and overseas. The project’s long-term goal is to develop a support base for one generation of artists for a certain period of time while also offering artists of various origins and styles the opportunity to learn new skills and gather experiences that will feed into their career progression. The project offers includes funding to support their creation, spaces to display works and opportunities to exchange experiences and develop art-making processes. Aimed to expand the artists’ attitudes of art itself through insightful analysis, discussion on the concept and its social value, Early Years Project also drives the artists towards a more mature experience in the international arena.
