: Part of 'FREE TEXTS' Project by Stephanie Syjuco, in collaboration with The Reading Room, Bangkok
'Text-Swap Party' is part of an ongoing project, FREE TEXTS, by Stephanie Syjuco, in collaboration with The Reading Room, Bangkok, exhibited at the Bangkok Art and Culture Centre (BACC). It consists of arrays of printed flyers that function as analogue “file sharing” sites. Each flyer advertises the URL of a digital text dealing with the issues of copyright, open source culture, contemporary arts and culture, theory, and politics. Viewers are invited to tear off tabs from the flyers, take them home, and type in the URL to download their own copy of text -- many of which have been illegally uploaded by anonymous file sharers around the world. By inviting the public to participate in this work it also implicates them as pirates in their own right, creating a problematic yet critical look at what it means to access this information illicitly.
